Supersize me...

OK so I know it’s that time of year and really you can't moan about eating to excess because you know it's coming, you tell yourself you're not going to do it, but the inevitable happens. Everyone does it. Whilst I don't think I've been that bad I have, on occasions, felt like Morgan Spurlock only without the McDonalds. This festive over-eating highlights how quickly your whole sense of well being can degenerate. Headaches, no energy, real belly aching emptiness when you know you actually probably don’t need to eat, coupled with a total loss of appetite caused by constant grazing so you just keep on going eating biscuits you don't even like, on the sly, in the kitchen. I thought I hadn’t been this fat in years until I looked at my diary entry for Monday 7 January 2008 – it listed my weight (same as it is now) and the words ‘started healthy eating’!!

I started keeping a food diary at the beginning of December in an attempt to shed a few pounds before the wrappers came off the Quality Street. It’s meant to bring a sense of control because you have to admit to your daily intake. The last week I’ve just added in new entries such as ‘can’t remember’ or drawn lots of sad faces next to ‘a whole box of Ferrero Rocher’. I caught a few minutes of a programme about eating disorders the other night and this therapist recommended squirting washing up liquid on any food you might binge on. I haven’t gone that far but did bin the offending biscuits today and no I haven’t done a Geri and fished any out in desperation.

My mum bless her didn’t buy me my ritual Christmas Day breakfast treat of a Terry’s Chocolate Orange because she knew I would be trying to be good but I ended up with one anyway (not for breakfast though)…and some Ferrero Rocher, a box of Milk Tray, and some gourmet Jelly Beans. We have a thing in our house that we should eat it all as quickly as possible to get the offending articles out of the way. Hence last night the boyf lay on the sofa and ate a whole layer (24 pieces) of Toffifee....he then felt sick. Apparently his healthy eating starts tomorrow.

As my favourite running writer always ends his articles…Waddle on friends
